About Me

I have a small breeding herd of 3-4 chins and aim to keep numbers low to keep room available for any rescues needing rehoming. I aim to breed quality large-size chins and to improve the gene pool in NZ by monitoring registered chins and their offspring. My animals are vet checked and non breeding males are neutered to prevent accidents :) I believe the gene pool in NZ requires such monitoring as there have been no new genes imported for many decades. I am investigating importing from the UK currently.

About Me

Chinchilla owner and lover and breeder

Had chinchillas 12 years now and breeding for 10 years

I breed all the limited colours we have here in NZ and trying to improve fur and size  of chins. Sadly I bred Malaclussion when I first started out due to lack of

knowledge. Sadly faced alot of slander over this.

Over the years I have learnt so much and have some awesome vets

My eldest chinchilla is 16 so I must be doing something right.

And couldnt imagine life without chinchillas so even got branded chinchilla as

in a chinchilla tattoo

I have had chinchillas on and off for the last 17 years.  I got my boy in 2003 and then had to get him a friend in 2007 as he was too attached to me.  In 2008 we had our first litter of kits 3 of them all healthy but I did need to help feed for a couple of weeks.  Since then we have had many litters and she is the most awesome mum.

About Me

I first saw chinchillas is a petstore when I was 12, they looked gorgeous, though not very happy in an old bird aviary placed in the middle of the shop.

For a while I passed on adopting chinchillas as they are quite expensive exotic pets, then when I started looking into career options I decided that I deffinitely wanted to work with animals, I began pre-study for a certificate in animal care focusing on exotic pets when I came across an overseas breeder with the most gorgeous babies.

I began looking at chin care in depth, working out what their ideal living conditions and food where, and then when I was 18 my parents adopted two little boy chinchillas for me from a lovely lady in Auckland who rescued chinchillas.

A decided I wanted to breed these gorgeous creatures soon after and began looking for female chinnies to one day pair up with my boys.

In all I adopted 8 chinchillas, at one year old I assessed each of them on their size, health, fur quality, and background. Out of 8 I got 1 single breeding pair of ideal health and weight for breeding.

I've been breeding chinchillas since 2008 as a hobby, breeding for size, health and personality and have had heaps of complements on my babies. I thank everyone who has offered their heart and home to one of my gorgeous babies and I hope they give you many years of companionship.

At the moment I have 5 of my own chins, my breeding pair Taz and Odakota, two young females who I'm hoping make it to breeding size, and Taz and 'Kota's latest baby who if going to his new in Feb '12. I have also begun doing chinchilla rescue and currently 5 rescues in residence.

I do not claim to know everything about chinchillas, I too am still learning but I am sharing my so far accumulated knowledge for the benefit of chinchillas and their owners. You can see my site for more chinchilla FAQ! littlechintas.webs.com
