Hi Rebekah, I've looked at the MCBA website, if you go to "new breeder help" and then click "record keeping" and scroll down it has a full list of the year-letter system. I think it would be neat to have our own individual set but I also think it would be more practical for import/export reasons to follow the U.S. system as I think the U.K does too. This year is currently Z anyway, so next year will be A. Will we have ranch brands too? I would like 'CC' for Chinchilla Cottage, just putting my bid in now! It is such a good idea to help keep track of chinchillas and differentiate between breeders and non-breeders who still breed anyway. Hopefully it will make it easier for the rescuers.

All righty then! Z for 2010 it is, would be best to stick with the States, even though we can't import any chinnies But the register is open!! And yes you've got the CC ranch brand, once (see if!!) internation importing/exporting gets started that will be CCNZ. Check out the "Registered Chinchillas" page for required information and e-mail it to me privately and I'll get it loaded up for you. (Sorry LC bagged the first 6 spots :P)

Hi again! Thanks so much! The register is awesome! I was also wondering if there could be an 'unknown' brand just to give rescues or unknown chinchillas a number to go from? It could be 'UN' so it won't be confused with UK. Its just cos I have a young female I would like to register but didn't breed myself. I have contacted her breeder telling her to check this register out, but until then she has no record. maybe this won't work, just thought I'd put the idea out there. Should I wait for the breeder to respond or could I register her under CC? I also think this might work for the case of rescues and breeders who choose not to register. Cheers, Imogen.

Hi Imogen, You have mail! And about the brands for registering a chinchilla you didn't breed I figured since most chinchillas will not be registered by a backyard breeder that the registered breeder who is going to be using them for breeding can register the chin under their own brand. For example LC didn't breed Odakota or Tazanna but they did register them first. There will be a transfer system eventually that if you adopt a previously registered chin off another registered breeder that chinchilla will be added to your category but it's brand will remain the original registration brand. Hopefully one day all chinchillas will be registered at birth so we won't have any 'unknown' chinnies. But yes I was thinking about a category for rescue chins to be registered under, I'll talk to Lycia about it.
